Sensory Wellbeing and Grounding Tools

Course Duration: ONE DAY
Emotional anchoring for healing and wellbeing. Grounding techniques are sensory experiences which ground or “anchor” us in the present and help us manage emotions and maintain wellbeing. Creating sensations that say "there is no emergency" helps calm the body’s alert system so the brain (prefrontal cortex) can regain its ability to think.

This course explores a range of sensory activities which can be used both for:

  • individuals looking for personal coping tools or to enhance personal wellness; and
  • professionals looking for options to use with clients.

Professionals often use these techniques to assist clients to remain connected to the present, and help them avoid distress, memories, flashbacks or intrusive thoughts that they can’t yet cope with. The activities introduced are easy, safe, low-cost and most are suitable for children or adults.

The tools can be especially helpful for people who experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, dissociation, along with those with experiences such as trauma, recent bereavement or chronic illness.

This course introduces the theory behind sensory tools and what makes them effective and also allows participants to actively experience a wide range of tools and provides take-home resources.
